Vingegaard show in Saitama: he crashes (here’s the video), attacks, and wins. Milan finishes 2nd

A day full of twists for the Dane: from the scare of the crash to the joy of victory

It was supposed to be a simple “exhibition” day at the traditional end-of-season event in Saitama for Jonas Vingegaard, one of the stars at the ASO-organized Saitama Criterium, but that’s not how it went. The Dane crashed in the early phases of the race, which were affected by rain, risking ruining what was meant to be just a celebration.

Luckily, no issues for him. He managed to get back up, rejoin the front group, and immediately attack together with another superstar, Primoz Roglic. The two rode away and worked together in the break until Vingegaard opened the throttle again and dropped the Slovenian.

A solo victory for the Dane, while it was a bitter finish for Roglic, who was caught in the final kilometer by the chasing group. Jonathan Milan won the reduced sprint for second place (beating another top sprinter like Kaden Groves).
