Great fear for Garofoli (hit by a hit-and-run driver): ‘He was going over 100 km/h…’

It was a matter of centimeters, and this article would have had a completely different tone—one of mourning, unfortunately. Gianmarco Garofoli reported on his social media a short while ago that he was the victim of an accident caused by a hit-and-run driver that could have killed him.

Fortunately, the car struck him only with the side mirror, still knocking him to the ground but causing no injuries or fractures; however, after the impact the vehicle did not stop. Later on, by chance, Garofoli managed to spot the car that hit him and alert the Guardia Civil, who then took charge of the incident.

“Today I struggle to find the words. These photos tell a moment that has marked me more than I can explain. I was hit by a hit-and-run driver: he was coming from behind at full speed, over 100 km/h, well above the limit. I was perfectly visible: I was wearing a fluorescent yellow vest and had my rear red flashing light on. Despite this, he didn’t slow down, didn’t move over, did nothing. He came up behind me and hit me with the side mirror and the front of the car. In that instant I realized that if he had hit me full on, I probably wouldn’t be here today.

After the impact I felt helpless, fragile, completely at the mercy of something I couldn’t control. But the worst part wasn’t just the hit: it was seeing that he didn’t stop. He fled, leaving me there on the asphalt, as if my life meant nothing. By chance, as I was heading back to the hotel still in shock, I saw a white Seat that perfectly matched the car that had hit me. The side mirror was broken… the same one I had picked up from the ground just minutes earlier.

I immediately called the Guardia Civil, who handled the case and identified the driver. I then went to the hospital: fortunately nothing broken, just many bruises on the left side of my body. Inside, though, something broke all the same. I’m sharing this not to stir controversy, but to remind everyone how vulnerable we are on the road and how it takes just a second, one wrong choice, to change a life. Today it’s like this. Tomorrow we start again, with a little more fear, but with immense gratitude for still being here.”
