Yesterday’s climb of the Mur de Bretagne wasn’t the fastest in history, due to the behavior of the contenders halfway up the ascent (with no direct attacks after Wellens stopped pulling). Dan Martin’s record still stands, but the climbing data of Oscar Onley, who finished third, remains outstanding and shows just how much the top riders are flying in this Tour.

The Mur de Bretagne climb is 2 km long with an average gradient of 6.80%. The British rider, with an estimated weight of around 62 kg, sustained an average of exactly 500 watts over the 4 minutes and 7 seconds of the climb. That translates to 8.06 watts/kg, with an average speed of 29.15 km/h and a VAM of 1982 m/h. These numbers were extracted by Watts in Cycling (X) from Onley’s Strava activity, so Pogacar and Vingegaard’s numbers should be similar considering their 2-second advantage at the finish.
