Another award for Van der Poel; he could step onto the podium in Paris

After the yellow jersey and the stage win, another award comes for Mathieu Van der Poel

The first week of this Tour de France has been unusual, so much so that on one day the prize for the most combative rider wasn’t even awarded, as no one attempted a breakaway. However, there are two riders who stood out on several stages, giving everything, coming close to – and even achieving – a dream. They are Ben Healy and Mathieu Van der Poel, both stage winners, protagonists of breakaways, and wearers of the yellow jersey.

On X, fans could choose between those two and Quinn Simmons, Michael Storer, Bruno Armirail, Pablo Castrillo, and Mattéo Vercher for the most combative rider of the first week of the Tour de France, and in the end Van der Poel came out on top. The Dutchman, who wore the yellow jersey for three days, becomes, at least for now, one of the favorites for the “Super Combative” award that will be assigned at the end of the Tour.

It’s a pity he didn’t manage to win Sunday’s stage with his attack from the very first kilometer, but so far the Tour has been a real success for Van der Poel. Pundits also consider him one of the favorites for the green jersey, but he keeps denying that it is one of his goals.
