With Evenepoel, Roglic could leave Red Bull — a team interested in him
The Slovenian’s future could lie with a new team, given the potential shift in dynamics at Red Bull
The future of Remco Evenepoel now seems all but certain—and far from Soudal Quick-Step. The Belgian is expected to join Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe, the team of Roglic and Lipowitz, to develop with a focus on Grand Tours and fight for the Tour de France against Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard.
However, his arrival could pose a serious issue for Primoz Roglic, who, at least on paper, has been the team’s leader so far. Especially when combined with the incredible rise of Lipowitz—third in the last Tour—and the presence of other young riders with high potential, like Giulio Pellizzari, who could take up more and more space.
For this reason, a departure for the Slovenian is becoming more than just a hypothesis. According to rumors from Spain, Movistar is reportedly considering making a move. It wouldn’t be an easy negotiation, given Roglic’s massive salary—€5.5 million per season—and a contract valid until 2026.
Still, it’s not out of the question that Red Bull could open the door to letting him go, even for free, if Evenepoel joins. But what kind of salary could Movistar offer the Slovenian? And what kind of team could they build around him for future goals? These are not minor concerns, especially for a team like the Spanish one, currently facing a less-than-ideal financial situation.
