In the cycling transfer market, it’s not only about riders switching teams at the end of their contracts and triggering a domino effect — it’s also shaped by those who decide to hang up their bikes for good. This year, even though the season hasn’t yet come to a close, Cycling Transfer Market: Not Just Transfers, But Retirements Too

Among them is Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas, two-time Monument winner Jakob Fuglsang, and consistently high-performing Romain Bardet. There are also some top-tier domestiques like De Clercq, Rafal Majka, and Jonathan Castroviejo, along with breakaway specialists such as De Marchi and Fraile. Notably, Caleb Ewan also announced his retirement after a late-season transfer to Ineos Grenadiers, realizing he no longer had the motivation to continue.

Two young riders have also been forced to retire due to health issues: Eddy Finé (iliac endofibrosis) and Lars Van Den Berg (heart condition).
