The first two moves by UAE, Bahrain’s big signing, Vacek renews, Matteo Milan goes to France, and another official announcement

After almost two weeks without announcements from the biggest teams, UAE Team Emirates was the first to break the silence and reveal its moves on the transfer market. First came the promotion to the first team of Adria Pericas, a Spanish rider born in 2005, who performed well at the Giro Next Gen—finishing seventh—and at the U23 Liège–Bastogne–Liège. He will also take part in the Tour de l’Avenir with his national team in a few weeks.

Then came the first real transfer market coup: American Kevin Vermaerke. The 24-year-old, until now with Picnic PostNL, has signed a two-year contract and will be looking for his first professional victory. Last year, he stood out at the Clásica San Sebastián and Milano–Torino, finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Bahrain Victorious, on the other hand, announced the signing of Alec Segaert. The Belgian has been one of the best U23 riders in recent years, as shown by his strong results at the World and European Championships, and has come close multiple times to winning the Belgian time trial championships, challenging Evenepoel and Van Aert. The 22-year-old is expected to sign a three-year contract.

Meanwhile, Lidl–Trek announced the contract extension of Mathias Vacek until 2029. The 2002-born rider was one of the standout performers at the last Giro d’Italia and proved he can be a key asset both in Grand Tours and in the most prestigious Classics, either as a protagonist or as a luxury domestique for Jonathan Milan, Mads Pedersen, or Giulio Ciccone. Luca Guercilena was clear: “Mathias has everything it takes to become a great champion.”

Also noteworthy is Matteo Milan’s move to Groupama–FDJ. According to sports director Philippe Mauduit, the Italian’s goal will be to become a sprinter within the French team. Martin Tjøtta, meanwhile, will move from Arkéa–B\&B Hotels to Uno-X Mobility, aiming to improve and establish himself as a climber.
