Pellizzari leader (with Hindley) for Red Bull, Tiberi aiming to bounce back with Caruso by his side, 3 Italians with Astana… the latest on the Vuelta
Let’s take a look at some of the teams lining up at this Vuelta a España, their goals, and their respective leaders
Less than a week remains until the start of the Vuelta a España, so let’s take a look at some of the teams lining up. Today we begin with Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe, Bahrain Victorious, and XDS-Astana—three teams with a strong Italian presence in this Grand Tour.
RED BULL BORA-HANSGROHE – The leader of the German squad is expected to be Giulio Pellizzari, after his excellent results in the last Giro d’Italia. Sharing the leadership could be Jay Hindley, a Giro winner a few years ago, who otherwise will act as a luxury domestique for the Italian (or vice versa). Supporting them in the mountains will be two more Italians: Giovanni Aleotti and Matteo Sobrero. Alongside them will also be Finn Fisher-Black (one to watch), Tim Van Dijke, Jonas Koch, and Nico Denz.
BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS – The team leader will once again be Antonio Tiberi. After his struggles in the last Giro d’Italia, the 2001-born rider will be looking for redemption, aiming at least for a top-5 finish. At his side will be Damiano Caruso, while the final choices regarding the rest of the squad have not yet been made (there had been talk of Torstein Træen). His DS, Franco Pellizotti, told OA Sport: “Podium? The goal is ambitious, but realistic.”
XDS-ASTANA – The Kazakh team will aim to collect as many UCI points as possible, just as they did in the Giro, and for this reason they will start with several riders all focused on stage wins. Nicola Conci, Lorenzo Fortunato, and Fausto Masnada will be the three Italians in the lineup, joined by Wout Poels, Sergio Higuita, Harold Tejada, Harold Martin Lopez, and Nicolas Vinokourov.
