Huge risk for Israel-Premier Tech: protesters blocked their path
The ride of the Israeli team’s cyclists was disrupted by the action of some protesters
Today’s team time trial was disrupted by a protest action carried out by demonstrators (in support of Gaza) against Israel-Premier Tech. The protesters deliberately timed their move for the Israeli team’s passage, standing in the middle of the road with a huge banner.
Police intervened at the last moment, managing to partially clear the way just as the Israel riders were arriving. The cyclists still had to slow down—fortunately without putting a foot on the ground—but they were at serious risk of crash, especially if the riders at the back hadn’t noticed the situation while going at very high speed.
Only a few seconds were lost, but the danger faced by the cyclists—who have nothing to do with what is happening—remained. The same goes for the protesters, who risked being hit by the athletes.
