How did Gaffuri’s “excellent” debut with Team Polti VisitMalta go?
At the GP Kranj in Slovenia, Gaffuri managed to be a protagonist right from the start
After many sacrifices in recent years—first as an amateur, then as an Under-23 rider, then again as an amateur, and later with the Swatt Club—Mattia Gaffuri made his debut today as a stagiaire for Team Polti VisitMalta at the GP Kranj in Slovenia.
In the race won by José Juan Prieto, with Thomas Capra and Riley Pickrell completing the podium, Gaffuri was one of the protagonists of the early breakaway, which also allowed him to step onto the podium during the awards ceremony as the winner of the intermediate sprints along the course. He eventually finished in 49th place, but that mattered little.
Here is the team’s statement on his performance, described as “excellent”:
“Moreover, stagiaire Mattia Gaffuri was a key protagonist in the breakaway until the closing stages. An excellent debut performance, which also earned him a place on the podium as the winner of the intermediate sprints.”
