Will Vingegaard race the Giro d’Italia after winning the Vuelta? His latest words
The Dane is only missing the Giro to achieve the much-coveted Triple Crown
Jonas Vingegaard is just one step—or better, one Grand Tour—away from the Triple Crown that every GC rider dreams of. The Dane sealed the Vuelta a España today by winning the final stage and, after his two Tour de France victories, he now has only one Grand Tour missing from his palmarès: the Giro d’Italia.
Vingegaard has never raced the Corsa Rosa because he has always prioritized the Tour de France, inevitably the most important race for sponsors and the one he has been targeting every year for the past five seasons. Next year, however, things could change and we might see the Dane at the start in Italy, as he himself revealed a few days ago. The condition for it to happen was a victory in Spain—and now that he has achieved it, the chances of seeing him at the Giro start are quite high.
These were his words to TV2:
“If I managed to win here (in Spain), I think it would be really fantastic to take part in the Giro next year to see if I could win all three Grand Tours. That would be a big goal for me.”
