In Crans-Montana today, the XCO Mountain Bike World Championship will take place, and anticipation is sky-high for several reasons. First and foremost, today’s World Championship race will be the last of Nino Schurter’s career—at least in XCO/XCC events—for the mountain bike legend. In addition, Mathieu Van der Poel will attempt an achievement no one has ever managed before: winning the final World Championship missing from his collection, after road, gravel, and cyclocross.

Among the other favorites, besides the Dutchman who produced a great comeback in Les Gets, are Luca Braidot, runner-up in the latest World Cup race, Luca Martin, Simone Avondetto, Alan Hatherly, Mathias Flückiger, Christopher Blevins, and Victor Koretzky.

The riders will battle it out on the Swiss course today at 1:30 p.m. (Italian time).
