The future of Lorenzo Finn: where will he race in 2026?
The latest news on what the new U23 world champion will do next season
Only one other rider in history had won the Junior World Championship and the U23 World Championship back-to-back: Matej Mohorič. A super talent of modern cycling, capable of winning stages in the Grand Tours and even conquering Milan–Sanremo—a classic theoretically not suited to him—thanks to his enormous talent. For this reason, after this double success, expectations for Finn are extremely high.
However, Lorenzo is still just an 18-year-old, who only moved up to the U23 category a few months ago and still has a lot of experience to gain. That’s why the new world champion stated yesterday that next season he will continue racing among the U23s, with no official step up to the pros yet. This way he will be able to wear the world champion’s jersey he has just won—something he could only show off for a few late-season races last year—and continue to build up valuable experience.
In the meantime, however, he will still be able to race in some professional events, as he did this year, perhaps increasing his appearances among the elite towards the end of the season. His future, in any case, remains with Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe, the team that is giving him all the resources and room to grow without pressure (while also building a powerhouse among the pros for its leaders).
