Pogačar in cyclocross? The words of the UCI Director of Sports Operations

Tadej Pogačar is the star of road cycling, and for this reason, it’s inevitable that every race wants him at the start line. However, this discussion could extend to off-road racing in the future, as Peter Van Den Abeele, the Director of Sports Operations at the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), spoke about a possible participation of Pogačar in some cyclocross races.

In the past, the Slovenian rider took part in a few races, mainly on home soil — such as when he finished second at the national championships in 2022. Since then, however, we haven’t seen him race in the mud again. Who knows — maybe in a few years, he could change his mind, or perhaps convince his team to let him do it. These were Van Den Abeele’s words on the matter:

“We must not forget that Tadej has been a cyclocross racer in the past. It’s his team that doesn’t allow him to do it, otherwise he would have already returned to race in some events…”
