Here’s when Van der Poel is expected to make his cyclocross debut this season
The Alpecin–Deceuninck team manager has given a hint about the Dutch rider’s possible seasonal debut in cyclocross
It could be about one month until Mathieu van der Poel’s seasonal debut in cyclocross. This has been confirmed by Christoph Roodhooft, team manager of Alpecin–Deceuninck, who stated: “Around Christmas we’ll see him somewhere.”
This matches the predictions of cyclingnews.com, according to which the Dutch rider should debut during the Christmas period just as he did last season, when he lined up for the World Cup round in Zonhoven on December 22. What remains to be seen now is exactly when and where he will debut. According to Wielerflits, it should not be on the weekend of December 13–14 (for the Namur World Cup round), but he could be on the start list for the World Cup races in Ancesa and Koksijde (December 20 and 21).
Van der Poel will officially clarify his calendar only after the presentation (scheduled for the end of the month) of the World Championships, which will take place in February. It therefore remains to be understood whether he will take part in the rainbow race and how many events he will decide to race before the spring Classics season (where he will have to defend his victories in Milan–San Remo and Paris–Roubaix).
