Could Marc Soler face a 4-year ban? The situation (no positive doping test)
Marc Soler is reportedly facing a potential four-year ban, according to Ciclo21 and echoed by BiciSport. The Spanish rider has not missed any anti-doping tests nor failed any controls, but is involved in a complex matter that will need to be clarified and resolved in the coming months.
According to the Spanish newspaper, Marc Soler will have to prove that he had no contact with Pepe Martí, a doctor banned for 15 years in 2012 following the doping scandal involving Lance Armstrong. CELAD (the Spanish anti-doping agency) had been monitoring the doctor’s movements and allegedly coordinated with the Guardia Civil to stop him while he was with Jaume Soler, Marc’s father.
The vehicle they were traveling in reportedly contained the equipment needed to carry out a lactate test, with the father claiming it was intended for himself as he was preparing for triathlon races. However, the explanation did not convince CELAD, as Jaume was not in training gear and, shortly afterward, the Guardia Civil saw Marc Soler stopped at the roadside with his father and the doctor. Additionally, there are some inconsistencies in the testimonies provided by those involved.
According to Ciclo21, CELAD currently has no evidence against the Spanish rider, but investigations are ongoing. Marc Soler is expected to prove that he had no contact with Pepe Martí, as also reported by BiciSport.
