Tense incident at the end of the sixth stage

The 2026 Tirreno-Adriatico delivered an unpleasant aftermath at the end of stage six. According to the Belgian website Het Laatste Nieuws, a heated argument took place at the finish in Camerino between Matteo Jorgenson (Visma | Lease a Bike) and Javier Romo (Movistar). The Spanish rider reportedly went to the bus of the American cyclist, where he grabbed his rival by the collar of his jersey, accompanying the gesture with threatening words.

The reason and the DS intervention

The spark was reportedly a maneuver carried out by Jorgenson during the stage, the details of which have not been disclosed. Romo, who finished the stage 54 seconds behind stage winner Isaac Del Toro, apparently decided not to let the issue go and confronted the American directly. To prevent the situation from escalating, Movistar sports director Maximilian Sciandri had to intervene and separate the two riders. Romo reportedly told Jorgenson a curt “adios” before walking away.
