The Tour does the opposite of the Giro: some time bonuses disappear

While at the Giro d’Italia the mid-stage time bonuses have become true protagonists of the race with the “Red Bull Km”, the Tour de France takes the opposite route. Unlike last year, there will be no bonus seconds up for grabs except at the finish line, where the usual 10″, 6″, and 4″ time bonuses will remain.

The intermediate bonuses—often placed at a KOM point and featured in four stages last year—have been completely removed. Thierry Gouvenou, head of route design, explained the reasoning: “The stages where they could have been included should already be animated enough without the need to add extra elements.”
