Pogacar’s Big Goal for 2026 and His Words on Retirement
The Slovenian’s Statements on Next Season and When He Might Decide to End His Career
The other day, we talked about Pogacar’s goals for the end of this season (in this article), following his withdrawal from the Vuelta, which was originally part of his plans. However, in an interview with L’Équipe, the Slovenian rider has already revealed what will be his major goal for 2026.
Not winning the Tour de France for the fifth time, as all the greatest have done, but rather winning Paris-Roubaix, the race he debuted in this season. The queen of the cobbled classics is one of the two Monuments still missing from his palmarès, and it seems the way he lost it this year (crashing while leading the race with Mathieu Van der Poel) really didn’t sit well with him.
Here are his words to the French newspaper. Below, you’ll also find his statements about retirement — which, he confirms, won’t happen before 2028, when the Los Angeles Olympics will take place:
“In 2026, I want to win Paris-Roubaix. This year, in my first participation, that race felt insane — I definitely want to come back. Winning five Tours de France isn’t a goal: I’d actually like to skip the Tour one year to try other races, but it’ll be hard, so there’s a good chance you’ll see me at the start line next year.”
“I don’t think I’ll stop anytime soon, but at the same time, I don’t see myself riding for too long. One of my goals is the Los Angeles Olympics, which are three years away. After that, I might start thinking about retirement — we’ll see.”
