Pogacar’s upcoming goals as he skips the Vuelta: “Now my body is telling me to…”
In the statement where he announced he would skip the Vuelta, the Slovenian also revealed some of his upcoming goals
It was in the air, and today it became official: Tadej Pogacar will not take part in the 2025 Vuelta a España. The Slovenian has decided to take a break after an intense first part of the season (from the UAE Tour to Paris-Roubaix earlier on, and from the Critérium du Dauphiné to the Tour de France later), also to better prepare for his upcoming goals.
Pogacar will definitely return to racing at the GP Quebec and GP Montreal in Canada—races he has openly declared as key targets, as you can read in his statements below—with the aim of preparing in the best possible way to defend his World Championship title in Kigali, Rwanda.
In addition to these races, we will almost certainly see the current world champion at the Giro di Lombardia, and likely at a few other Italian classics as well. These were his words in the official UAE Team Emirates statement:
“After such a demanding Tour, we decided it was best to take a break. The Vuelta is obviously a race I’d love to come back to. I have amazing memories from 2019, but right now my body is telling me to rest. I’m excited to return to Canada; the races are tough but beautiful, and they suit my style well. I’m aiming to be at my best for that part of the season, and especially for the World Championships.”
