Will Pogacar race the Vuelta or not? In Spain, they already know

Not even enough time to celebrate for Tadej Pogacar, and the focus already shifts to the next stage race: will the Slovenian be at the Vuelta or not? The attempt to go for the Tour-Vuelta double has never been officially confirmed by anyone from the team, nor by Tadej himself, although the idea had been circulating since the start of the year.

Unfortunately for the fans, AS is certain: Pogacar will not be at the start of the Spanish race. On Wednesday, he will announce his schedule for the rest of the season, which will include Il Lombardia and the World Championships, but no Tour-Vuelta double. Instead, UAE will bring Juan Ayuso, who likely wouldn’t have started the race just to ride in support of the world champion.

However, Ayuso won’t be the only team leader for the Emirati squad, as Joao Almeida will also be at the start. The Portuguese rider had to abandon the Tour de France early after a heavy crash but is expected to recover in time and be in form for the opening stages in Piedmont, where the Vuelta will begin.
