The words of Pogacar and the other protagonists of today and of this Tour

With today’s stage, the 2025 Tour de France has come to an end after a final day that, unlike previous years, was far from a simple parade thanks to the presence of the Montmartre climb.

The happiest man of the day can only be Wout Van Aert who, after a difficult Tour, managed to claim one of the greatest victories of his career on the Champs-Élysées, dropping Tadej Pogacar in the process. Despite the defeat, the Slovenian cannot be unhappy: this is his fourth Tour victory and his sixth consecutive podium in the Tour de France. The same goes for Milan, who didn’t manage to sprint today, but the green jersey means far more.

Below are the words of these three protagonists:

TADEJ POGACAR –
“Actually, I didn’t have the energy to motivate myself to race today. I was glad they neutralized the times at the end. That made it more relaxed to ride at the front. All you needed were good legs. I tried, but Wout was incredibly strong. It was a beautiful race. I’m speechless about winning four Tours and standing on the podium six times in a row. This, in particular, is such a positive feeling.

I’m proud to be here again in the yellow jersey. The way we raced as a team was key. There was a good atmosphere and good morale. We wanted to fight from day one. After the fifth stage, which finished on the Mûr de Bretagne, I knew I had good legs, and that would be enough to fight for the win. We kept fighting. In the second week, it was important to build a solid lead so we could tackle the third week with more calm.

Vingegaard? We talked this morning right after the start. We noticed how much everything has changed over the last five years. We’ve lifted each other up and pushed each other to the limit to beat one another. I have to say the battle with Jonas was tough, but I showed him my respect and congratulated him on his race.

Now it’s time to celebrate. Everyone makes their own choices in that regard, but I want to spend a few quiet days at home this week, hoping the weather will be better than today’s in Paris.”

WOUT VAN AERT –
“It was a special day, and it was special for me to win once again on the Champs-Élysées, and this was the first time with Montmartre. The rain definitely made it riskier, but I decided to go for this stage with the support of my team, whom I thank for continuing to believe in me, again and again.

They’re always by my side to support me. We tried to control the race today, and then we left everything out on the road. I wanted to win one of the 20 before this one, a few times I got close, but things didn’t always go well. The hardest part for me was continuing to believe, but there were so many people around me who believed, and that helped me.

We were here to win the Tour with Jonas. But the strongest rider won; right now Pogacar is the strongest in the world. I’m proud of how we raced as a team, we gave it our all every day, we’re the best in the team classification, and that means something.”

JONATHAN MILAN –
“There’s not just one person to dedicate this victory to. I dedicate it to everyone who supported me not only during the Tour de France but throughout the whole year: my family, my girlfriend, my team. I’m simply happy, this was a huge goal for me and the team since the start of the year. It’s something so big that I still haven’t processed it. Petacchi? I’ll give him a call.”
