Remco Evenepoel Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe

Remco Evenepoel’s move to Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe is one of the biggest deals in recent years—if not ever—in the world of cycling. The Soudal Quick-Step rider, despite a disappointing season this year due to multiple injuries, is a double Olympic champion and one of the very few cyclists seen as capable of breaking Tadej Pogacar’s dominance at the Tour de France.

For this reason, the figures to bring him to the German team are sky-high but, as always in the cycling world, these are just rumors with nothing confirmed. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports a massive salary of €8 million per season, the same amount that Tadej Pogacar is believed to earn at UAE Team Emirates. Foreign sources, however, mention a huge deal worth €20 million over three seasons—about €6.6 million per year.

That’s quite a leap compared to his current contract, about which there was never any certainty. Some sources claimed he was earning €5 million per season, while others mentioned €3 million annually. It’s unclear whether this was a progressive contract—meaning €3 million in the early renewed seasons and €5 million in the most recent one.

In any case, Evenepoel’s move to Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe is part of a broader strategy aimed at making a leap forward in Grand Tours—so far the Belgian’s Achilles’ heel. He will have a team built specifically for that goal with a larger budget, while still keeping the same technical equipment (Specialized), which he is very comfortable with—as shown by his consistent time trial victories.
