Roglic is thinking about retirement and the Olympics, but not in the way you might think…
The Slovenian rider from Red Bull Bora-hansgrohe is starting to think about his future, even away from the bike but still within sports
Soon, Primoz Roglic will turn 36, and he is fully aware that his cycling career cannot last forever. For this reason, in an interview with Het Laatste Nieuws, he began speaking about a possible retirement and the other goals/priorities he has in life.
What stands out is his desire to once again take part in the Olympics—though this time not the Summer Games, but the Winter Games (as a young man, he was a world-level ski jumper). Another priority, of course, is to travel less and spend more time at home with his family.
Here are his words, divided by theme:
FUTURE – “Right now it’s about surviving, and at my age the day I stop is coming closer and closer. I’m no longer twenty, so it’s natural that I look at my future differently. I want to do other things in life as well. Maybe go back to winter sports, where it all began for me. No, not ski jumping—that’s in the past. But the Winter Olympics? That would be truly amazing, even if for now it’s unrealistic.”
FAMILY – “I can’t be everywhere anymore. At home, I have a wife and two children, and they deserve my attention. Cycling is my job, but my family means everything to me. First and foremost, I am a loving husband and father—only after that, an athlete.”
FOR NOW – “I take things day by day. Even if I wasn’t always at my best, I really enjoyed making it to the third week and finishing the Tour.”
