Filippo Baroncini, after the very serious crash at the Tour de Pologne, is doing better and a few days ago he was brought out of the induced coma following two delicate surgeries (one maxillofacial and one on the spine).

Beyond the discussions on safety in the peloton and the management of this situation in the moments immediately after the accident, Andrea Agostini, Chief Operating Officer of UAE Team Emirates, made a point of thanking Michal Kwiatkowski and Dr. Robert Kempers, who played a crucial role in helping Baroncini shortly after the crash.

These were his words to Tuttobiciweb.it, where you can find the full interview with Agostini and Giannetti on the matter:

“I would also like to say one more thing: in this incident, we must thank the Ineos doctor, Dr. Robert Kempers, and Michal Kwiatkowski. Miki, who had gone down with Pippo and other riders, was immediately reached by his team doctor, who was nearby, but the rider insisted on telling him that he was fine and didn’t need anything, and that he should go help Filippo instead, because he had immediately realized how dramatic the situation was.

Dr. Kempers was exceptional; he carried out the first rescue operations himself, and we can only be grateful to him. This confirms that cycling is a big family, where competition is fierce, but in important moments, we are all there for each other.”
