The Derek Gee vs. Israel-Premier Tech soap opera continues – and it could last quite a while – with the rider responding to the team’s statement through a note posted on his Instagram profile.

Here’s a recap: the Canadian was supposed to be Israel’s leader at the Vuelta, but, surprisingly, he was left out of the roster due to an “incident during training.” Soon after, Daniel Benson and other journalists, including Ciro Scognamiglio from La Gazzetta dello Sport, revealed that the rider was on the verge of joining Ineos-Grenadiers, with only the official confirmation missing.

At that point, Israel-Premier Tech released its own statement, admitting it had received an “unexpected notice of termination from Gee’s lawyers”, while insisting that the contract remained valid until its expiration in 2028, according to the team. Today, Derek Gee responded, confirming that he requested the termination of the contract – which he considers already concluded – and stating that he has never spoken to any other team, as UCI rules require.

“I can confirm that my contract with the team has been formally and duly terminated. It was not an easy decision, but I made it after careful consideration and for legitimate reasons. Certain issues made my continued presence on the team unsustainable. I want to make clear, despite what has been written, that this decision only concerns my previous contract with Israel-Premier Tech. In compliance with the rules of the Union Cycliste Internationale, I have not signed anything, nor spoken with any other team.”
