Pogacar chasing the double world championship double: it would be a new record

Tadej Pogacar has given up the chance to win both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España, completing the Triple Crown, in pursuit of one big goal: winning the World Championships again. The Kigali course suits him well, given the enormous elevation gain, and the world championship double (2024–2025) is therefore more than just a possibility.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, however, Pogacar is also planning to go for the time trial title, which isn’t favorable to classic time-trial specialists given the 680 meters of elevation gain over the 40.6 km route. No one in history has ever managed the time trial–road race double in the same year, and the Slovenian wants to try to set this new record.

Standing in his way will be Remco Evenepoel, who has already announced that he aims to win both events after his early withdrawal from the Tour de France. The Belgian has already won both titles, but in different years.
