POGACAR Tour de France

After taking a break following yet another Tour de France victory, Tadej Pogačar is ready to return to racing, starting now with the two Canadian WorldTour classics at the end of the year, in Quebec and Montreal. On the occasion of his return to competition, he also spoke at the pre-race press conference, addressing several topics.

From the fatigue he felt both during and after the Tour de France, to the World Championships at the end of September — with the time trial, where he will face Evenepoel, and the road race. Below are his words on these topics:

TOUR DE FRANCE FATIGUE – “Was I tired after and during the Tour? Yes, but that’s normal. You’re already tired after just one race — imagine having to face nearly 20 in a row… Everyone needs to rest their mind from time to time. Especially in the world of sports, where athletes always have to give their best and are under enormous pressure. After the Tour, I took the time to do just that.”

TRAINING – “I feel good, I’m quite satisfied with how my summer went. The end of the season is always full of ups and downs, but I’m happy to be here. After the Tour I took a break, then I followed Urška in her races and did some good training at home. I couldn’t fit another big high-altitude training block into my summer.”

CANADIAN RACES / GOALS – “We’re here with a strong team and I’ll be happy to contribute to a win in any way I can. I’ll definitely give it a try, but it wouldn’t be a tragedy if I don’t win. Obviously, I want to give my all at the World Championships. That’s the main goal for this last part of the season. I also want to use these races as good preparation and I hope to be ready.”

THE CHALLENGE AGAINST EVENEPOEL – “Do I really want to challenge Remco? Of course, that’s the goal. I want to put pressure on him and on the other strong specialists. The course should suit me, even though I’ll need a very good day. I’ve always loved this discipline, and now I’ve trained more than usual on my time trial bike. I’ll go there also to prove I can be the best on the day.”
