Remco Evenepoel speaks out and responds to the rumors about his attempt at the hour record.
The Belgian answered some questions yesterday after winning the European Championship, including one about the record held by Ganna
As of today, Remco Evenepoel is the best time trialist in the world. His results in recent years and the four titles he holds (World Champion, Olympic Champion, European Champion, and Belgian Champion) confirm it. This is why in recent weeks rumors had intensified about a possible attempt at the challenge faced by all the greatest time trialists in history: breaking the hour record.
Currently, the record is held by Filippo Ganna with 56.792 km in one hour, and unless there are major surprises, it should remain safe for a few more years. Evenepoel has in fact responded to the speculation suggesting he was considering the attempt, clarifying that it is not one of his current goals. It might be in the future, but today, with his move to Red Bull – Bora-hansgrohe in progress, it is not a priority for him.
These were his words in a press conference, as reported by Tuttobiciweb:
“I can say that the hour record is not yet in my plans. I have other things to do first. One day, maybe, later in my career when I’m thirty, I might try. But not in the near future. Starting from 2026, I’ll be working with a former world hour record holder, Dan Bigham, who is in charge of engineering at Red Bull-BORA. I’m curious to hear what he thinks. But personally, I won’t make it an absolute priority, let’s say for the next five years.”
