Lidl-Trek is moving for a general-classification star: but has he renewed or not?

Florian Lipowitz is without a doubt one of the purest talents in modern cycling. His podium finish at the Tour de France—his first Tour ever—and other major results achieved at just 25 years old prove it.
This is why, in recent days, rumours have intensified about potential interest from Lidl-Trek in his profile, especially considering the internal competition with Evenpoel and Pellizzari, at least within Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe. The American team, having secured Ayuso, is reportedly close to announcing two more major sponsors for the coming years, with the goal of becoming the best cycling team in the world.
The Grand Tour department is the area in which they have been most lacking so far, and for this reason Lipowitz would have been the right name to aim for general classifications in the coming years. The rumours gained traction also because of the German’s contract expiring at the end of 2026, opening the door to a possible free transfer next year.
However, yesterday Daniel Benson denied these rumours, revealing that Lipowitz has already secretly renewed his contract. The expiration date of this new deal is not known, but it will certainly run from 2027 onwards, which would make a transfer to another team much more difficult, as it would require a significant payment directly to Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe.
