ON TODAY’S RACE – “It was a bit strange to race in Gavere in these conditions. It was a really different dynamic from usual, and making the difference was quite difficult. And Thibau was really strong. On this course I expected that, to be honest. I didn’t expect that I would be able to drop him. He was certainly very strong, and in these conditions it’s very difficult to race while staying very close to the wheel.”

HOW HE WON – “With three laps to go, when he launched his attack, I decided to do one all-out lap. I think he made a small mistake on the wheel and that gave me the chance to create a gap. Today it was about being patient and knowing how to wait. It’s very difficult to race like that, you see that the differences are very small. That’s why I decided to gamble on a fast lap, hoping it would be enough, and fortunately it was. Otherwise, I think today it would have been decided in a sprint.”

ANOTHER RACE ADDED TO THE PROGRAM? – “Yes, we thought about it with the team, especially with these weather conditions. We also discussed it at the beginning of the week, but it seemed better to stick to the original plan. A plan can be changed, but normally it doesn’t happen.”
