“One of the most memorable podium ceremonies that I…” Vingegaard speaks again about the Vuelta
The most recent Vuelta a España will forever be remembered also for the lack of a final podium, or at least an official one. In fact, due to protests, the organizers cancelled both the final stage and all the award ceremonies.
The news was not well received by Vingegaard, who, disappointed, had already resigned himself to not being able to properly celebrate the Grand Tour victory. However, the improvised podium in the hotel parking lot turned out to be a real success, as the Dane recounted to Inside the Beehive.
“I went back to the hotel disappointed. I grabbed some chips and a beer and sat down at the back of the bus. Then someone said they were working on a ceremony in the car park. It became one of the most memorable podium ceremonies I’ve ever had. It was more intimate. I just had to be careful not to fall off that improvised podium.”
