Vingegaard casts doubt on the World Championships: “I hope the fans understand that…”

2026 will be one of the most demanding seasons ever for Vingegaard, with his participation already announced in both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France. After these two Grand Tours, however, there is great mystery surrounding what the Dane’s plans might be.

What is certain is that, for now, the Classics are still missing from his calendar. This is exactly what the Dane spoke about in a recent interview with Wielerflits, revealing that his participation in the World Championships in Montreal is far from guaranteed. These were his words:

ON THE CLASSICS – “I haven’t yet found the right way to approach them. I fully understand why Tadej wants to win them. Obviously, I would like that too. But at the moment I can’t. Moreover, we are preparing better and better for certain races because the level is much higher than it was a few years ago.”

ON THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – “I hope fans understand that it’s not that I don’t want to take part in the World Championships, but that I can’t. I’ve never had the right energy to compete. I’ve never had what it takes. I hope people understand this better now,” he explained.
