Problems in Seixas’ contract renewal? The situation between delays and Pogacar’s UAE.
Paul Seixas is undoubtedly the new rising star of world cycling. He has shown that he is not only an incredible talent but that he could already be one of the best rivals to Tadej Pogacar today. The results of the 2026 Strade Bianche say it, and above all the Frenchman’s data in this 2026 season confirm it.
For this very reason, the eyes of the best teams in the world are on Seixas, dreaming of securing a future Tour de France winner—perhaps the first French winner after many years of drought for the race’s home nation. For Decathlon CMA CGM, which strongly believes in him and has placed him at the center of the project for more than a year, that is the objective, and this is why negotiations for a contract renewal had already begun.
His current contract expires at the end of 2027, meaning in two seasons, and for this reason the situation is not exactly calm. According to Bram Vandecapelle, a journalist from HLN, the rider’s agent and Seixas have interrupted the renewal talks that had been started. Discussions have been postponed until after the Ardennes Classics—a piece of news that is partly worrying and partly completely normal.
Seixas is flying, and without a doubt a renewal signed a few weeks ago would have earned him less than a renewal after his current results. This delay could therefore simply be a strategy to ask for more—economically and otherwise—at the negotiating table. On the other hand, however, there is concern because UAE Team Emirates-XRG has reportedly set its sights on Seixas.
Pogacar’s team has been trying for years to secure the best talents in the world, as they did for example with Del Toro, and they want to do the same with Seixas. There is still a long way from saying the two will be teammates, but the interference of UAE could certainly create some problems for Decathlon CMA CGM, which, as a French team, cannot afford to lose a potential French winner of the Tour de France. Perhaps this could give cycling another record contract after those of Ayuso, Evenepoel, and Pogacar in recent years.
