These are the days of national time trial championships all across Europe—not just in Italy—which means the national champions for the next 365 days are being determined right now. In Italy, it was once again Filippo Ganna who claimed the national title (which allows him to wear the Italian champion’s jersey already during the Tour’s time trials), while abroad there have been both repeat victories and unexpected surprises.

In France, Bruno Armirail secured the title once again, finishing 21 seconds ahead of Vauquelin and 44 seconds ahead of Seixas, the 18-year-old prodigy from Decathlon AG2R – La Mondiale. More repeat wins came from the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Poland, and Latvia, with Mathias Vacek, Daan Hoole, Filip Maciejuk, and Toms Skujiņš taking the respective victories.

In the UK, Joshua Tarling was absent, the British champion’s jersey will now go to Ethan Hayter. In Norway, Tobias Foss reclaimed the title by beating Søren Wærenskjold. A twist came in Switzerland, where Mauro Schmid took the jersey by just one second over Stefan Bissegger (with Küng absent). In Slovakia, the jersey will be worn by Matthias Schwarzbacher, an under-23 rider who also took part in the Giro Next Gen just a few days ago.
