The penalty for the photographer who caused Vingegaard to crash, Visma does not agree
The jury has decided how to deal with the photographer who caused the Danish rider’s crash
After the climb to Mont Ventoux, the rivalry between Pogačar and Vingegaard almost came to a premature end—and not for sporting reasons. After the finish, an inattentive photographer collided with Vingegaard in an area where only a very limited number of people were allowed (which is why there are no photos or videos), causing the Danish rider to crash.
Fortunately for the Visma Lease a Bike leader, nothing serious happened—according to reports, just some pain in his shoulder—but the outcome of that stupid fall could have been much worse. Vingegaard himself was the first to speak out about the incident in an interview just minutes after the stage, and the jury decided to step in by suspending the EPA photographer for two stages.

However, the penalty imposed was not enough for Richard Plugge, the manager of the Dutch team, who stated:
“Fortunately, Jonas was unharmed. This could have been the end of his Tour. It’s up to the jury to determine the extent of the penalty. But in my opinion, he should have been disqualified for the rest of the Tour. This should never have happened.”
The photographer will be allowed to rejoin the caravan as early as tomorrow; yesterday morning he still showed up at the start of the stage to apologize to Visma Lease a Bike at their team bus for what had happened.
