Pogacar is ready for battle: “Tomorrow Visma will…”
Tomorrow’s stage is shaping up to be, at least in Visma’s plans, one of the most incredible in recent Tours. Pogačar is well aware of it
All or nothing: tomorrow will be the penultimate mountain stage, in which Jonas Vingegaard will have to try in every possible way to put the yellow jersey, Tadej Pogačar, in difficulty. The Slovenian is fully aware of this, and already today, speaking to the microphones after finishing the stage, he declared he is ready for what is shaping up to be an all‑out battle.
The Dane, a two‑time Tour de France winner, is more than 4 minutes behind and tomorrow he will already have to chip away at the world champion’s advantage if he truly wants to believe in what would be a sensational comeback. The terrain will be perfect, with three “Hors Catégorie” climbs for a total of 5,450 meters of elevation gain over 178 kilometers—staggering numbers.
If anyone, especially up until yesterday morning, expected a dominant Pogačar chasing stage wins, well… they need to think again. These were the Slovenian’s words after today’s stage finish:
“The goal is to keep the yellow jersey, nothing else. Tomorrow we can expect Visma to try to go on the attack and to ride every climb flat out. On the Col de la Loze they will try to do everything possible to drop me. I’ll be ready to face whatever comes my way. I know the Loze: it’s a beautiful climb and one of the hardest I’ve ever ridden. Maybe this side is less diabolical than the one we tackled in 2023.”
Regarding today, he added:
“It was quite a calm day, but not easy, because it was fast and in the end there was some bad weather. I’m happy the stage is over and that we all managed to stay safe.”
