Ineos Grenadiers was ready for a major overhaul, but Dave Brailsford’s return has brought everything to a halt. The British team had been pursuing several negotiations and had already reached agreements with some riders, but the mastermind behind Team Sky’s successes decided to veto many of the team’s moves.

As reported by Daniel Benson, one of the most significant decisions by the Briton was to strongly block the signing of Filippo Zana. The former Italian champion, currently with Jayco-AlUla, had received an offer worth €900,000 per season. However, the deal later collapsed, and Zana reportedly asked the Australian team if he could stay.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Kevin Vauquelin. The Frenchman from Arkéa, who had a strong Tour, had already reached an agreement with Ineos Grenadiers, but now everything could fall through. Benoît Cosnefroy and Dorian Godon had also been linked to the team and were appreciated before Brailsford’s return. The future of Sam Welsford is also on hold — a two-year agreement had been reached, but everything is currently frozen. Michał Kwiatkowski’s future is uncertain as well; after a poor season due to injuries, he is on the radar of several teams. Ben Swift, Brandon Smith Rivera, and Kim Heiduk are also waiting to find out whether they will be offered contract renewals.

Ineos Grenadiers is still expected to try to sign a top-tier rider. This has been Brailsford’s market approach over the years, and it should remain the same this year, which is likely why all negotiations have been put on standby.
