After yesterday’s first real mountain stage, today the GC contenders will once again have the perfect terrain to challenge each other. Stage seven of the Vuelta a España features a summit finish at 1,905 meters, similar to yesterday’s, but with a total of 4,211 meters of elevation gain spread across 188 km.

In total, there will be four categorized climbs: two first-category (including the final one) and two second-category (in the middle of the stage). The final climb is 12.1 kilometers long with an average gradient of 5.8%, but it includes several sections in the middle where the gradient rises above 9%.

The favorites can only be the GC riders: Ciccone, Vingegaard, Gall, Almeida, Pellizzari, Tiberi, Buitrago, and so on… but we’ll have to see if, as happened yesterday, a breakaway will be allowed to go (with some riders possibly aiming for the red jersey, such as Lorenzo Fortunato). Also worth keeping an eye on is Juan Ayuso, already out of contention for the overall, but perhaps looking for redemption right away to silence the critics.

The stage will start at 11:55 a.m. with an estimated finish time around 5:15 p.m.
