Pogacar fears the new Evenepoel: “It scares me to think that he might…”

There were three main rivals for Tadej Pogacar this season: Mathieu van der Poel in the early-season classics, Jonas Vingegaard at the Tour de France, and Remco Evenepoel in the late-season one-day races, including the World Championships, European Championships, and Il Lombardia.

Next year, three of these four will still be on the same team, but one of them — Remco — will try to improve even further in another top team: Red Bull–Bora Hansgrohe. The German team made a strong impression this year in the Grand Tours and has attracted big names in recent months, both athletes and staff members such as Bigham, formerly of INEOS Grenadiers.

For this reason, an additional step forward is expected from Evenepoel, also considering the issues he faced this season after his winter accident. And it was Pogacar himself who announced this to the microphones of Sporza. These were his words:

“For Remco, the change could be positive. He has moved from one super team to another. It will be interesting to see if he manages to take another step. I hope not, because I already think he is quite strong and dominant. It scares me to think that he could get even better, even though I’m almost certain he will do well. The whole world will follow his next steps with great interest.”
