Life is strange, as Davide Formolo himself admitted. The Movistar rider will have to stay sidelined for 6 weeks during this winter period because of an absurd household accident that caused a cut on his big toe.

A problem that prevented him from lifting his toe, and which required tendon surgery. The absurdity lies in how the accident happened at home: a cup of tea fell right on his big toe, causing a cut—small, but enormously troublesome. Below are his words on the matter:

“Life is strange. You ride about 30,000 kilometers a year on roads with trucks passing 2 centimeters from your handlebar. Every time you throw yourself down wet descents you don’t even know, like a kamikaze, and then a cup of tea falls on your foot and gives you this tiny cut… It doesn’t seem like anything at first, but I noticed I couldn’t lift my big toe, so that was it: 6 weeks out.”
