After his crash the other day at the Tour de Pologne, Filippo Baroncini was placed in an induced coma to stabilize the fractures he sustained. According to Tuttosport, these injuries require complete immobility, which is why doctors opted for a medically induced coma before the necessary surgeries.

In the crash (into a wall at high speed), the UAE rider suffered a broken collarbone, a cervical vertebra fracture (with no neurological consequences), multiple facial fractures, and several other facial injuries. Fortunately, Filippo is not in life-threatening condition and has not sustained any damage to his vital organs, as confirmed by the doctors at the hospital where he is being treated, according to Tuttosport.

UAE Team Emirates general manager Mauro Giannetti stated:

“Our rider is in an induced coma. The doctors have placed him under deep sedation, and his condition is stable. We have decided to have him undergo surgery in Italy. Filippo will arrive in Italy by Tuesday evening. Regarding the city where he will be operated on, Milan is the most likely option.”
